REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Sometimes people tend to try and control others for their own needs. Even though I fell into the receiving end of this most of my life, I now have a choice in the matter. I can refuse to be controlled by others, if I do what is right for me, without fear of repercussions or verbal abuse. I am stronger now, and my courage to speak up on matters of principle comes from my Higher Power. I will not turn down this gift of courage because of fear of what others might think, say, or do in retaliation.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May I realize that what others do or say is not necessarily an honest judgment of me as a person. Even if they meant it as such, I need only answer to You.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

I do not have to let others control me. I have the Twelve Steps to use as my guide, not the judgments of others.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Choices are not always easy. I do have a choice when a decision is called for. I may not recognize the choices and often say, "I had no choice but to .....," and so on. But the actual situation may have been that the alternative to what I chose was so undesirable, I did not give it any rank. For example, I am learning that I always have the choice of not choosing. In other words, I can ignore the situation. And I have realize that is making a choice. I recently heard the idea, "Not to choose is to choose." Hopefully the idea will help me to learn to evaluate all alternatives more thoroughly.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

Help me to be honest with myself and my situation. May I think about that the next time I feel short on choices.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

Choices are almost always available.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Our length of time in the program can mean a lot or very little, depending on what we do with that time. The more we open ourselves to the healing of acceptance and surrender, the more growth we will achieve. On the other hand, we can sit in meetings for years and remain as closed and fearful as the day we came to our first meeting. At each meeting we have a choice. We can be open to the warmth and acceptance which awaits us, or we can remain closed. Our Higher Power uses this time to touch us through each other.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May I be willing to do my part and not rest on my laurels.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

The gifts of growth and healing are available for me. I only need to accept them.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

All I have are these twenty-four hours. Each second, minute, and hour I have a choice. Do I realize how many choices I do make each day, however, small they are? I am responsible when I am making decisions. Each choice I make helps me to grow. Some decisions I make might be right, some might be wrong, but I grow from all of them. I gain more confidence with each decision I make.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

Give me the courage to make decisions.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

The worst choice may be to make no choice, but even that is a choice.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

How painful it is at times to make choices. We want the best of both worlds. Yet most of the time this simply cannot be. We need to give up one thing to gain something else. As we seek guidance from our Higher Power and from our friends, we are helped to see the choice which will bring us our greatest good. The feeling of loss is also real and we need to acknowledge this pain. By facing our pain we are able to let go of the loss and go on once again.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May I have the courage to get off the fence and make a choice.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

As I focus on the growth my loss created, the pain of the loss will dissipate.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Thinking back over some crises in my life, one common thread seems to run through them. I emerged a little bit stronger, a little bit wiser, and a little more appreciative of the ways and methods of my Higher Power. I now realize that each incident presented me with two different choices: negative -- I could crawl under a rock and curl up and die; positive -- I could accept it as an opporunity for change with a new attitude toward an old, familiar situation. What really impressed me was that the choice was mine. It was up to me to decide what direction I wanted to take and which attitude I wanted to adopt. If there was doubt in my mind, I turned it over to my Higher Power.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May I continue to look at crises as an opportuntiy to grow.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

My choice will be positive.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Often I want to break away from all of my responsibilities. These are some of my choices: I can become hot with frustration and anger, attacking those I love, crushing them (and I will feel remorse): or I can sigh, rushing myself with the weight of inadequacy or resignation or the futility of it all (and I will waste time and feel guilty); or I can stop now, stand aside for a moment, and look and listen. I will see I am heaping abuse upon myself, inflicting it because, one again, I have not done enough. Or I will feel fear- fear that I might be like that person who is bugging me so much. So I must look at myself with kindness and tell myself to keep it simple. Then I can pick myself up and begin again taking another step, and even surer one, toward knowing who I am.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

Oh, God, help me to know I have a choice.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

I will go easier on myself and look at myself with kindness.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

It has been said, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is." This is why a hostile man lives in a hostile world and a loving man lives in a loving world. It is the same world -- it is how I perceive it that counts. I have a choice, and herein lies my accountability. It has also been said, "As a man sows, so shall he reap." I must realize that thinking, feeling, or acting negatively begets negative results. What I put out, I shall receive. The effects of my words and acts have a profound impact in my world, and on others as well as myself.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May You work through me to radiate calmness, trust, generosity, truth, justice, forgiveness, acceptance, and love.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

Happiness and good come to me in their highest form, not because I seek to absorb it, but rather because I seek to radiate it.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

Sometimes I work too hard, get too busy, and run roughshod over problems -- my own and maybe others'. I often ignore this "too busy" problem for a while. After all, these many, many thins I have to get done are very, very important! But wait a minute. They are not nearly as important as talking care of myself, getting the necessary sleep, eating properly, and taking some time to communicate in a loving way with persons in my family and in my live in general. The tough thing is to make choices, often because I have to choose between several things I want to do or things that other people want me to do. Making choices is not easy. I need to ask myself if what I am so busy at is really as important as some of the other things which are calling for some time.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

May I slow down at least enough to take a quick inventory now and then. Help me to put myself on the list.

TODAY I WILL REMEMBER

To realze the most important thing is to be alive in the world.
